October 2, 2026 (Friday)
14:00 - 17:00 (hall will be specified)
Lecturers: Drs.Selena Young (Singapore), Valerie Pereira (Hong Kong), Linda Vallino-Napoli (USA)
Making decisions for the treatment of speech difficulties in people with cleft lip and palate is an ongoing, lifetime process that progresses from caregiver-dependent choices during infancy and early childhood to growing personal autonomy during adolescence and adulthood. Along the way, providers can encounter complex situations that require problem-solving skills and sound choice-making. This course is designed to provide healthcare providers with the tools and strategies they need to navigate challenging scenarios and enhance the care of individuals with cleft lip and palate. Through case based interactive discussion, the course focuses on strategies and processes for making decisions that can be systematically applied in clinical settings to guide treatment planning and ensure client-centered care. Small groups will offer a chance for participants to engage in conversation, deliberation, and collaboration to facilitated decision making on cases.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe how decision-making in cleft-related speech management changes across the lifespan.
2. Identify factors that contribute to decision-making beyond speech outcomes.
3. Apply decision-making strategies to clinical scenarios.
4. Integrate client- and family-centered approaches into interdisciplinary care treatment planning.
The Speech Therapy Course is included in the congress registration fee.
For the comfort of participants, capacity is limited to 30 people. To register for the course, please send your request at e-mail: cleft2026@guarant.cz .
