Ron Hathaway

Ron Hathaway (DDS Iowa, 1984) began his career as a speech pathologist (MS, Vanderbilt University, 1979) and thereafter as an orthodontist (MS, University of Detroit, 1987.) He has served as a full-time professor at various institutions including University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Indiana University and the University of Cincinnati Medical School with appointments in the departments of orthodontics, plastic surgery and oral-maxillofacial surgery. During his career he founded and directed 2 craniofacial fellowship programs, mentoring 27 fellows from all parts of the world. He was the craniofacial team director at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. He also was the 2015 President of the American Cleft Palate- Craniofacial Association with 11 years of service on the ACPA Board of Directors. He is a founding member (with 4 colleagues) of Americleft, a North American cohort research group which aims to improve outcomes for all patients with cleft conditions. He has over 30 publications with his colleagues solely devoted to the mission of external audits of inter-center cleft treatment outcomes. Currently he is a clinical professor at the University of Michigan in the craniofacial-orthodontic program, supervising residents in clinic, teaching fellows, plus mentoring theses. He is also the recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Lifetime Service Award, given by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
