Jitka Vokurková

Dr. Vokurková graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Brno in 1980. During her studies, she began attending the Clinic of Plastic Surgery in Brno, where she later started working after completing her first-degree certification in surgery. She obtained her certification in plastic surgery in Prague in 1991 and subsequently completed her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University Brno, in 2000, focusing on “Cleft Facial Defects.” She furthered her postgraduate education through internships at numerous international institutions, the longest being at the International Institute for Craniofacial Surgery in Dallas, USA. In addition to general plastic surgery, hand surgery, and traumatology, Dr. Vokurková has primarily focused on the treatment of congenital developmental defects of the head, skin, limbs, and vascular system addressed by plastic surgeons.

For this reason, she moved to the University Hospital Brno (FN Brno) in 2004, which includes the Children's Hospital – a comprehensive facility allowing surgical treatment for children from the neonatal period and the management of complex diagnoses. In 2011, she founded the Department of Pediatric Plastic Surgery there, providing systematic treatment for the most common congenital facial defect, the cleft. Due to the increasing number of patients and the complexity of care, the multidisciplinary Center for the Treatment of Facial Clefts was established at FN Brno in 2019, including long-term follow-up care (dispensary), where Dr. Vokurková remains an active member. Adult patients with congenital defects are treated within the adult department of the same hospital.

Throughout her professional life, she has been an active member of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University Brno. Every year, she participates in several international and domestic conferences and congresses, totaling dozens of appearances. She also lectures for non-medical professions, including nurses, as well as clinical and educational speech therapists. She is an active physician at the EB Center (Epidermolysis Bullosa) at FN Brno, the only such center in the Czech Republic, and is a member of several professional societies of the Czech Medical Association of J. E. Purkyně (ČLS JEP).
