Professor O.P. Kharbanda is Director of the Delhi Cleft Care Centre and Professor Emeritus at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), India. He also serves as Medical Advisor to ABMSS, a leading cleft charity organisation.
Professor Om Prakash Kharbanda previously served as Pro Vice Chancellor (Health) at RUAS Bangalore after holding the Dr C.G. Pandit National Chair, awarded by the Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi. Earlier, he was Chief of the Centre for Dental Education and Research and Professor and Head of the Division of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Deformities at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has also directed the WHO Collaborative Centre on Oral Health, led the Centre of Excellence for the implementation of the National Oral Health Program, and served as advisor to the Ministry of Health, Government of India.
Dr Kharbanda’s pioneering contributions to interdisciplinary cleft care in India and South Asia have earned him widespread recognition. A past President of the Indian Society of Cleft Lip Palate and Craniofacial Association (ISCLP and CA), he received their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025, delivered the Founders' Oration for the society, and has been twice honoured with ISCLP and CA Appreciation Awards. Professor Kharbanda, author of the acclaimed textbook “Cleft Orthodontics”(Publisher: Thieme), serves as a PhD supervisor, postgraduate educator, mentor, and distinguished clinician.
Recognised internationally, Professor Kharbanda’s expertise encompasses orthodontics, cleft lip and palate management, dental education, research, innovation, and community health dentistry. His academic influence is reflected in an H-index of 41, over 5800 citations, and an i10 index of 100—one of the highest in India. His latest two-volume textbook, "Orthodontics," 4th Edition (Elsevier), released in February, has received international acclaim.
